Ready for Paint

Got my new fender dialed in and ready for paint.  I'm going to try and tackle the next phase of the project myself with quality rattle can paints/primers.

I replaced the advance unit earlier this week and couldn't get the bike timed.  I struggled for a couple of evenings and decided to take a break and walk away.

Got it right today and it's running strong.  These Ironheads make you work for it but when they're right, they're a blast!

Jesse @ Gasbox in Ohio makes these really nice fenders.  He matches the radius of Avon SMII tires and the fender itself is really great quality.  I highly recommend this fender if you're in the market for a quality piece.

Latest Leather Project

Here are some pictures of my latest leather project; a custom fork bag for a Triumph Chopper.

"Sutton Built" tooled in Old English font.

Basket weave stamped on the body of the bag.

This was a fun project!

Mid-Season Makeover

I was hoping to make it to Winter before I worked on the rear end of my Ironhead.  My Shovel project was gaining momentum and I wanted to focus all of my efforts ($) toward that.

Well, I've ridden this bike a lot this season and the rear tire was getting pretty close to useless!  I decided it would be a good time to change the tire/fender combo and make some new fender struts.

The old "Indiana Gary" setup was not doing it for me any longer.  Time to spend Saturday at Southpaw Machine and make it happen:

Ross' tig welding rig is really nice!

Ross designed a nifty bottom-mount for the fender that is WAY stronger than my previous setup.  No offense to "Indiana Gary".

Lowbrow Customs sells a nifty fender strut kit that comes with assorted bungs/hardware and stainless rod.  The fender is from Jesse at Gasbox in Ohio.  He makes these fenders to fit the profile of Avon MKII rear tires perfectly.

All mounted up...I made a dash through the summer thunderstorms across town.  I'll tear it down in a few weeks and get some coats of gloss black on it.  I love the way it came out.  Changes the look of the bike...and for the better in my opinion!

Thanks to Big Boss Ross for all the help and for taking the time to teach me a few things along the way!

Long Haul Shovel Update

I've made some progress with my "Long Haul Shovel".  Mostly the progress has been acquiring necessary components that will make this beast roll down the road under it's own power.  Charging system, clutch packs, etc.  The only "sexy" part I've acquired lately is a very nice set of bars from Noise Cycles.  They fit the vision I have for this bike perfectly!

I have a thing for this brown two-up seat!  Not just the way I acquired it, which was a trip I will never forget, but the fact that it's quite comfortable!

I'll hopefully get back on this project after the little "mid-season makeover" of my Ironhead!  Stay tuned...

Camping at Sand Rock

We had a quick overnight camping trip to Sand Rock, near Leesburg, AL.  This is my second time to camp in this spot and it is my favorite in the state!

Plenty of shade, a nice breeze (kept the flying bugs away) and cool overnight temps made hammock camping comfortable.

We had a great ride up HWY 411 through small towns in Northeast Alabama.  Stopped in Gadsden for lunch and had NY strip cooked over a fire for dinner.

Loaf made an appearance from Monkeytown.  His bike was down so he caged it but it was good to spend some time with the one they call Loaf.

Good times with good friends.  I'm already looking forward to our next trip!

My bike with my "traveling" sissy bar.

Best campsite and view in our area!

Whitey found a painting of his junk (he says it's drawn to scale)!

Ross was the latest to catch the hammock craze.  I'm getting better with my rig.  It takes a few nights to get the hang of it.

This is a view from the top of our campsite.  Plenty of room to throw down if we get some numbers!

Saturday afternoon nap...

Weiss Lake in the background.  Best panoramic view of any spot I've been to!

I hope we can get out a few more times during the riding season!

Went fishin'!!!

Pops and I headed to the Gulf in search of Red Snapper. We came home with less than we wanted but had a great time!

It's been a while since he and I got to spend quality time together (just the two of us).

It was a quick trip but one to remember!
